Portland, Oregon.

It’s known as a modern-day hub of progressivism. It’s a city of hipsters, DIYers, vegans, and brew-geeks who take their coffee flavored ‘snobby and pretentious’. It’s a buy-local sort of town, a mecca of Certified Organic, a haven for artists and craftsman. If your neighbors find out you don’t recycle, you’re going to have a rough time because Portlandians are professional protesters, and no cause is too small. It’s a nice city; people are polite, and kind, and upbeat. To many, Portland is a Utopia of Weird. It’s a sanctuary for misfits and dreamers.

But it wasn’t always that way. At one time, this great city that we know today as Portland, Oregon, was a river town whose beginnings we often look upon as nothing more than a humble Victorian settlement. However, in reality it was considered the most dangerous port in the world, due to high crime and the practice of ‘Shanghai-ing.’ Its history is also one of exclusion. When the state entered the union in 1859, for example, Oregon explicitly forbade African Americans from living within its borders, the only state to do so. It has a past full of murder, mayhem, and dark politics.

In the shadowy underbelly of Portland, the Kindred war and the Uratha struggle against powerful spirits. Cults of mortals gather to understand — or battle — the unspeakable.

And then, there are the Mists. The Mists have been a part of Portland's psyche and collective unconscious for longer than its residents can recall. There are Native legends, urban myths, wild hypotheses surrounding them that will likely never be proven. Different theories about what the Mists actually are abound, but one thing is agreed: wherever they make an appearance, strange and eldritch things happen.
